My phone chirped.
I glanced at the text.
My heart sunk.
“We need to talk.”
Ensuing texts that follow that four-word sentence are never good. From my experience, there are only three possible outcomes in the next group of texts.
- She wants to discuss the future of the relationship.
- She is pregnant.
- Something came up on her monthly visit to the doctor.
Based on the fact that we already agreed we wanted nothing more than to be fuck buddies, I ruled out No. 1. Even though I neglected to ‘strap up’ the last time we fucked, I didn’t bust in her and she had her period soon after, so No. 2 was done. So, by process of elimination, Door No. 3 had to be opened and it was kicked in.
“You might want to get tested for chlamydia.”
“Wow. This came out of left field. Why do you say that?”
“Well, I went to the doctor and [some medical jargon here], then got tested for my regular check-up and came back positive for chlamydia. You were my only partner for the last few months and I was clean before then. Just thought you should know. I know it’s an awkward text to get, but just wanted to be honest.”
It’s strange, because I never felt symptoms from chlamydia or had been told by anybody else that I gave it to them. I’m definitely headed to the clinic or doctor soon to get it all checked out, but this was such a rude awakening for me. Going raw, while it feels amazing, isn’t worth it in the long run. Sure, all you could get is chlamydia and it’s treatable by antibiotics; but what goes to say another woman wouldn’t be as kind to that news and would make your life miserable — or who knows, something worse could happen like HIV or even worse (pregnancy).
